I screwed up and I am so very sorry!!

“To err is human; to forgive, divine.”

Alexander Pope

NEWSFLASH: Pharmacies and pharmacists make dispensing errors!! We wish we didn’t. We’d do anything we possibly could to reverse them when they happen, but well, they do happen.

When I first got out of pharmacy school (23 years ago) I worked in a busy pharmacy with 3 other pharmacists. One of them (Mary) had a unique way about her. The first time I saw a customer bring a “mistake” to her attention, Mary looked in the computer, saw that it was actually HER that processed the prescription, and responded to the customer: ”I’m sorry, WE made an error. Your prescription was difficult to read and WERead More »

How To Design And Build A Remarkable Life

By Guest Blogger, Corey Jahnke

Yesterday I told several middle-aged professionals about the workshop I was to give to the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and I was scoffed at. The unanimous response was essentially: ”You’ll NEVER convince a group of teenagers of ANYTHING!! This makes me smile, because my job is not to “convince” them. My job is to show them a map and share with them why they might be interested in following said map. I thought I’d share the map with you as well!

Live On Purpose

By Guest Blogger, Corey Jahnke

“The important thing in life is to have a great aim, and to possess the aptitude and perseverance to attain it.”

Purpose: The absolute best reason for getting up in the morning. For some, it may be home schooling their 8 year old. For others, it may be missionary work. We all have a major definite purpose in life.

Few are wiling to take the time to find theirs. Fewer still have the courage to fulfill their purpose once they find it. Always keep in mind that if you are not living “on purpose” then you open yourself to whatever life chooses to hand you. People who are content to wait and see how … Read More »

How To “Use” A Role Model

By Guest Blogger, Corey Jahnke

“Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without the strategy.”

General H. Norman Schwarzkoff

Think really hard about that person in your past whose word was gold. No matter what she said she was going to do, she did. Everything about her smelled of integrity. You would leave your life savings with her, and never give it another thought. No matter what the situation; you knew she had your back. Others may have slandered you, but not her. No matter what went right or wrong she always took the high road. When the chips were down, you could always count on her to reach deep … Read More »

How To Become The Smartest Person In The World

By Guest Blogger, Corey Jahnke

“We count our miseries carefully, and accept our blessings without much thought.”

Chinese Proverb

The smartest person in the world is the person who is thankful. Gratitude seems to elude us as we constantly strive or wish for something more. It is critical in our journey for success that we appreciate all that we have, and the people who enrich our lives. Gratitude creates a position of strength.

Frustration creates a position of weakness. Take some time today to count your blessings. Realize that all we ever really need to do to be truly happy is to build on the good things that already exist in our lives.

When we are grateful, positive things MUST … Read More »

“I’m sorry to keep you waiting. I was busy being inefficient!!”

Corey W. Jahnke

The above quote is my standard response whenever I can tell the customer is irritated that they have to wait to speak to the pharmacist!! Why “break the ice” when you can obliterate it?

My brother and his wife were coming into town for the weekend and although I had to work, I wanted to see them at least for a little while. So, we made arrangements to meet at the local pizza joint after my Saturday shift. As I sat down at their table, my sister-in-law Stefanie said with a big smile, ”I LOVE your Mickey Mouse tie and ALL … Read More »

Give Customers The Gift Of The Angels

By Guest Blogger, Corey Jahnke

“When you address a customer by name it is as if you hired a choir of 10,000 angels to sing them their favorite love song.”

He looked better than he had in years, but his aura held a definite cloud of heaviness as he walked up to the pharmacy. I could feel his sadness as if it had punched me in the face. I was determined to lighten his load. ”Good morning Doug!!” I said. ”How can I make your life better today?”

He turned to the gentleman who was with him and said: ”This guy has an amazing memory. It has been months since I’ve seen him, and he calls me … Read More »
