My name is Joy Bing Fleming, MBA. I’m a Motivational Teacher, Author, and Realtor. I’ve gone through fears, challenges, and struggles in my life. I hope my life story will motivate you to follow your dreams (no matter what they are).

Back in 1996, while attending graduate school, I began working in Corporate America. My dream was to have a job that I was passionate about (a job that I absolutely loved). Of course, I also wanted to be able to make a living at my job as well. My plan was to work my way up the corporate ladder. I thought I knew what I wanted to do back then; however, I received a huge shock.

Corporate America was not what I thought it would be. Some people absolutely love Corporate America, and that’s wonderful. However, the office politics weren’t for me, and none of my positions challenged me. I began to hate getting up everyday. I couldn’t sleep at night because I didn’t want the next day to arrive. I was so unhappy that it began to affect my health. I knew there was something better for me out there - a career that I was truly passionate about that would provide an abundant income plus more freedom to spend time with my family.

So, I began to think about my true passions in life. I always loved dancing, and I also loved to teach, encourage, and inspire others. I wanted my own business, so I began to research franchises. I decided to purchase a dance franchise in which I would be teaching ballet, tap, and gymnastics to children ages 2-8 years old. Whenever you do something different (especially having your own business), you always have fears like:

  • Will this work? Will I succeed? Will I make enough money?

I went from being an Accountant in Corporate America to teaching preschoolers. It was a huge change for me, but I welcomed the challenge. Teaching was so rewarding for me. I loved watching my students excel at dancing, seeing them learn new skills/steps, seeing how happy and excited they were to dance each week, and seeing their faces light up.

My students drew pictures for me and gave me gifts. One of my students gave me a rock and told me that if I put the rock under my pillow, it would make all of my dreams come. That meant so much to me. It made my heart melt.

After a couple years of teaching dance, business began to slow down, and I let my fears take over. Back then, I was thinking the wrong way. I had not yet read The Secret, The Success Principles, Think and Grow Rich, etc.

Eventually, I had to give up my dance franchise. Around this same time, I went through a divorce. Going through a divorce and losing my dance business really hurt my self-confidence. I began to focus on my failures and forget about all the successes in my life (like putting a smile on children’s faces everyday, having my MBA at age 24, purchasing my 1st home at age 24 and my 2nd home at age 28). Again, I was thinking the wrong way.

This was the 1st time in my life that I’d really felt like a failure. I became very depressed. I hid my depression from most people. No one knew how bad I really felt. Some days I didn’t want to get out of bed. Sometimes, I would start crying for no reason at all. I actually was afraid to be around a lot of people because I was scared that I would just start crying in front of them.

However, one day, I wound up meeting a shining star in my life when I wasn’t even expecting it. His name is Keith. He always listened to me without any judgments, and he gave me a lot of great advice. He told me that I was choosing to be depressed. Everyday, we have a choice of whether we’re going to be happy or sad. At first, I didn’t really understand that. I certainly didn’t think I was choosing to be depressed - that was just the way I felt. However, eventually, I became sick and tired of feeling that way.

So, one day, I got up, and I chose to be happy. I started by simply saying “I am happy.” Unknowingly, I made an affirmation to myself. I started to think differently, and I began reading the books listed at LifePassion.net/books. The first book I read was Change Almost Anything in 21 Days, by Ruth Fishel.

I decided - made a choice - to take 100% responsibility for my life. Life is all about the way we think. Remember, if you believe it, you can achieve it. You can choose to think abundantly and be happy, or you can choose to think negatively.

Never give up on your dreams or sacrifice your happiness. Believe in yourself. Tell yourself, “I’m going to make it”. All of us have struggles to overcome in our lives, but you know what – No matter how hard it gets, you can make it. Believe in yourself.

In 2003, I became a Realtor®. My real estate business provides me the opportunity to educate and encourage 1st time home buyers. I love seeing my clients purchase their 1st home. Some of them never thought they would ever buy a home in their lifetime. It’s wonderful to see their dream of homeownership become a reality.

The internet is a great way for me to continue to reach out and inspire other people. My purpose is to use my knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm to empower and inspire others to discover their passions, fulfill their dreams, and achieve their life’s purpose.

Now, if I can’t sleep at night, it’s because I’m so excited for the next day to arrive. I can’t wait to get up, so I can teach, motivate, and inspire someone else. I love helping others.
