So You’ve Been to all the Seminars

By Guest Blogger, Tom Murray

As I expand my coaching practice I meet many people who feel “stuck” or unable to change even their own thoughts and actions. These people have read the books, attended the seminars, hired coaches and yet nothing changes. What I’ve noticed is that the books and seminars all outline numerous specific actions to take. Some of these actions may be as simple as writing in a journal or even visualizing for a few short minutes. Other actions may be more substantial such as a career change. The point is that there is a major difference between thinking about doing something and actually doing something. This may sound simple but it’s a major stumbling block for a lot of people.

If you feel stuck, then it’s time to do an honest self-assessment. Think as if there were a fly on your wall inside your home that you haven’t yet swatted! Assume it has been observing you for the past year. What would it see? Would you still be waking up at the same time every day? Would you be interacting with the same people? Eating the same food? Reading the same books? Watching the same television shows? The simplest action can create a lifetime of change! When you desire something, your thoughts, words and actions need to align. Just thinking about something you want is not enough. If it were, your life would already be different! So, the next book you read or seminar you attend pay close attention to the instructions given and then follow them.

I totally agree with Tom Murray. Action is so important. The simplest action creates a domino effect. For instance, I decided to declutter and organize my closet. This was a huge undertaking for me because I love clothes. It felt so freeing to let go of things. Well, that result, lead me to take more action. I decluttered my hall closet, my bedroom, living room, etc. My next action is to use feng shui in my living space. So one action lead me to take many more actions or steps toward my goal.
