Don’t Steal From Your Friends!!

I was working with one of my favorite coaching clients and to my surprise he said this: “I am so afraid to publish my book because I am afraid people won’t like it!”.

He brought up an important point. You put your heart and soul into your projects and they are completely subject to destruction by lack of interest or even severe dislike. Plus, it speaks directly of our core being who so desperately seeks approval. How can you actually push the publish button and take a chance on finding yourself the subject of ridicule?

The solution is rather simple really.

I asked him how many people he thought there were in the world. He said, “I guess about 7 billion”. “Exactly!” I said. “I can guarantee that MANY people will hate your book. I mean there are people that don’t like chocolate or even (dare I say it) ice cream! I don’t get that either, but there are. MOST people won’t care about your book. I believe Dr. Phil was spot on when he claimed that people wouldn’t worry so much about what other people think of them if they realized how infrequently they do. BUT, with 7 billion people in the world, there are inevitably going to be people who need to hear what you have to say, as much as you need to say it.” THAT IS ALWAYS THE CASE! ALWAYS!

I asked him (and I am asking you now) to visualize the person that he really wanted to help with his message in every conceivable aspect. I told him to give her a name, and to create for her an identity that he could imagine in complete and vivid detail. I begged him to “get to know her” extremely personally. I then said to him: “Once you’ve gotten to know her on an intimate level, how could you possibly steal from her?? You have a ton of value to share with her! Don’t you dare hold back and keep her from learning your life secrets!”

His book “When Crescent And Cross Converge” was published a couple of months later and it is magnificent!!
