How green is your mental carbon footprint?
By Guest Blogger, Dina Marais
I’m sure you agree that when we talk about going green, we talk about reducing our carbon footprint, conserving energy as well as making use of cleaner energy among other things.
What the experts are asking is for us to take responsibility for our carbon footprint and take control of how we use and expend energy.
As you may well know, you are energy. Your body is energy. So are your thoughts. Your thoughts and the meanings you associate with your thoughts, have a direct effect on your body and that put you in a state.
You radiate your energy and others experience your energy through your state, what you say and what you do.
Let’s see how we could relate and measure our thoughts and state in terms of our mental carbon footprint.
On a scale of 0 to 10 where 0 means you are dead and 10 means you are unstoppable, how do you feel most of the time? The lower the score, the higher your carbon footprint. A score of 6 or lower means that the emotions you experience most of the time range from frustration, anger, depression to fear. A score of 7 or higher is indicative of emotions like acceptance, appreciation, love, joy, happiness, tolerance, gratitude, etc.
How we feel is a barometer of what we think about. If you now realize that you are in control of your thoughts and thereby your energy and mental carbon footprint, how can you take responsibility and reduce your mental carbon footprint?
• What would you like your score to be most of the time?
• What states do you choose to be in to achieve that?
• What thoughts would you focus on to support these states?
• What do you now believe about your ability to be in control of your mental carbon footprint?
• How would others experience your energy with you operating from these thoughts, beliefs and states?
• What does that open up for you now?
