Refuse To Be “JUST ANYTHING”!!

It happened again! I was at a networking event last month in San Diego and I heard myself say “Well,” followed by the two most disempowering words ever: “I’m just”. I hate it when that happens!! I’m a strong, confident, high performing individual and yet, every now and then I send a signal to my sub-conscious that, well, sometimes when push comes to shove, I don’t really believe in myself.

Grrrrrrrr!! But, I am fortunate in that I have made my life’s work the study of personal development and do all I can to figure out what makes top performers tick. As such, I had been to a Brendon Burchard event a couple of weeks prior to giving my own confidence level “a stiff shot in the chops!”

At that event Brendon said this: ”I coach multi-millionaires on a regular basis, and every one of them has their demons. The difference between top performers and average people is that top performers refuse to listen to those demons!”

I thought: ”How fascinating!! Even guys like Richard Branson and Darren Hardy have moments of self-doubt and uncertainty!”

The reality is every single one of us is human, but instead of listening to what high performance expert Marcia Wieder calls “The Doubter” and letting him or her make us blink, we absolutely MUST view that “INNER IDIOT” the same way someone like Jerry Seinfeld would view a heckler at his comedy club.

We should make fun of the doubter and move on! The best way for me to do that is to ask myself a question and then write out my best answers and act on them! The question that ALWAYS WORKS FOR ME is: ”What would have to be true for me to know…?”

For example, today I am asking myself that question this way: ”On January 1, 2014, what would have to be true for me to know that I absolutely crushed it in 2013?”. Essentially the answers to this key question create my to do list.

Once I write out the answers and keep them handy, I am dead certain that I will be too busy to give “The Doubter” his day in court!!
