What if success were simply a four part process? (Part 3 of 5)

By Guest Blogger, Corey Jahnke

In the introduction to my four part success formula, What if success were simply a four part process? (Part 1 of 5), I discussed how difficult it truly is to get your mind wrapped around the concept that you really are never stuck in life, but to become successful in getting unstuck it is vital to keep it simple. I knew that if I was ever going to make the journey from moldy piece of cheese to having a remarkable life I had to make the process as elementary as possible. I choose to focus on four things.

In the second entry, What if success were simply a four part process? (Part 2 of 5), I detailed the mindset that successful people develop by getting around the right people, becoming life long learners, tolerating nothing less than successful outcomes, and becoming someone who deserves the success they seek. Part one of the process is all about understand that becoming a success is not something you DO it is SOMEONE YOU ARE!

If the person you become is critical to your success formula, it becomes imperative that you package yourself in such a way that the world understands the value that you hold.

Part Two: How do I have to present myself?

“The guy says: ’People shouldn’t judge you by how you look. Let me give you a hint: THEY DO!!” Jim Rohn

Once I understood this, EVERYTHING CHANGED FOR ME!! I developed a successful image by asking and answering these four questions:

Is dressing for success really THAT important?

The simplest way for me to answer this question is to ask you to check out this You Tube clip of my friend Darren Hardy (take special note of the top comment) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fMQ3GPemsI. When I met DH, his presence was breath taking. Not because he was editor of Success Magazine, but because when he enters the room, he owns the room. Everything about him says “I am a success and I am here to serve.” Do yourself a favor. Go and sit in your local Wal-Mart, shopping mall, or bustling airport and listen to yourself judge people based on their appearance. Like it or not, you make assessments based on clothing, grooming, and physical fitness. What are they? Everyone else does the same when it comes to you. The good news is you are in charge of your own appearance. You have total control. If you struggle with any part of this arena please email me at corey@SuccessEqualsValue.com. I can help you, and I can put you in touch with others who can help you as well.

How can I add value to others?

Givers succeed. Takers fail. Your sole purpose in life must be to serve others without attachment to the outcome. Here is a post that explains why: Detach From The Outcome By Corey Jahnke.

When I read “Think And Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill I learned something that changed my life: Successful people never do life on their own. They develop teams, and create mastermind groups that are designed to help each other maximize their abilities and share in the glories of each others victories. If you haven’t read Dr Hill’s amazing masterpiece, it is time you did!

Am I trying to sell something?

Each and every one of us is selling ourselves all day every day. My friend and mentor author Bob Burg (www.burg.com) says it this way: ”When you sell, you give of yourself. You give time, attention, counsel, education, empathy, and value. Great salespeople are also advisors, teachers, and consultants.”

We sell ourselves best when we develop advantages for others. In fact, we are successful to the degree that we create value.

In the blog What Am I Getting Here? I share the philosophies I learned from sales master Jeffrey Gitomer. In Jeffrey’s classic book “Customer Satisfaction Is Worthless. Customer Loyalty Is Priceless” Jeffrey shows why the best of the best remain in the hearts and minds of their customers. Jeffrey’s book is a must read for anyone and everyone who wants to be successful.

Do I have an OPEN FOR BUSINESS or an UNAVAILABLE sign on my forehead?

Opportunity is everywhere! Author Brian Tracy writes that successful people study, prepare, and present themselves in a way that attracts opportunity to them.

Author Zig Ziglar shares that one’s daily attention to detail clears the path to the attainment of our dreams in life. Ask your friends, family members, and coworkers to assess your openness and your ability to connect with people.

Are you the type of person whom others freely approach, or do you have an imaginary fence around you? Would I feel welcome in your environment if I didn’t know you? Are you available to opportunity, or are you guarded and suspicious? Opportunity aligns itself with the abundant minded. Make sure you understand that the best way to be trusted is to trust first!!

Remaining open and available to opportunity is crucial. In the next post we will discover how to find a unique opportunity and make the most of it.
